Saint James School -
Photos A view of "1811" [Brandegee] House as seen from Worthington Road. This house (directly across from the TownHall was the school office and sometimes used to house the staff. During 1957 - 1959, the upper classmen lived here. An interesting thing about this house is that it had three graves in the basement from the original residents. Evidently in the early 1800s sometimes when people died, they were buried in the basement. Contributed by: JW. "1811" House - Winter

1811 House - View South
South side of the 1811 house as seen from Worthington Ridge. The bay window facing the lawn was Francis' private office. The door next to it opened into his office. The front room on the first floor nearest the street were used for storage; mainly uniforms and uniform parts. The second floor rooms were residences for the upperclassmen, and a few faculty members. The rear wing held Mrs. Bakers' office. School business offices were on the first floor, and the second floor had more bedrooms; and a rec room with a pool table and TV. The small attached garage is where Francis would park his Buick when he didn't leave it near the tennis courts. Part of the bus garage can bee seen to the far left. The lawn itself was used for graduation exercises in the Spring. The building was painted white in the "SJ Days". The original pain job was badly neglected and had to be stripped and repainted by the new owners a few years ago. |
