"Even Stephens" Diner

This is a picture of the "notorious" diner to which the SJ kids used to sneak out and go to for hamburgers.  This is how it looks today.  It was closed for many years but reopened about 6 years ago under new ownership.  The name Even Stephen's comes from the name of owner Stephen Jagiello.  Sadly, Steve was killed in a very tragic car crash last month, and the diner has been closed since then.  It's unsure whether his family will keep it going or not.

The "Forbidden Candy Store"

Currently a private home, this was the forbidden candy store near St. James. Located on
Worthington Ridge, about one block north of St. James near the corner of Hudson St.

The store closed many years ago when the owner retired.  was
the offices of the Berlin Fire District until the new Municipal Complex opened.

Former Berlin Town Hall & Police Dept.
[So much a part of SJ's declining years]
Located on Worthington Ridge - across the street from,
and just south of St. James

The first floor was the meeting hall, and the Police station, and the second floor
held town offices.  The brick structure on the right is the form police lockup/jail.
The building is currently (2006) being renovated, and may be turned into a museum,
and visitor's center.  The Police Dept. and Town Hall are now in the Municipal
Complex across town, about three miles west of St. James.
