Saint James School - Virtual Drive, Late 50's

As you entered the school from Hudson St. you passed Main House on the right and came to a big paved parking circle. "D" house was down Hudson St. a ways from Main House and the foundation for the new gym was dug on the athletic field behind this house. Going counter clockwise around the parking circle, which I believe is the turn in Saint James Place today, was the back of Main House, the school building, stairs down to the basement of the school building where the old gym was, the pathway to the athletic field and a cottage that housed some teachers. The basement of this cottage had showers that we used after athletic events, like baseball practice. From the circle, the entrance road continued up the hill and made a ninety-degree turn up the hill. Right at that turn to the to the right of the road was the barn for the horses. Some distance behind the barn was where the swimming pool was built. Next to the barn, also on the right, was the field for the horses, which had an electric fence around it. Up the road a little and on the left was the tennis courts. Continuing up the hill towards Worthington Road on the left you came to the very large garage, which housed the bus and also an indoor rifle range. To the right side of the road at this point was a very nice flower garden and many Morning Glory bushes shielding us from neighboring houses on Worthington Road.   Finally came the 1811 house on the right and the road ended at Worthington Road.

There was another house and property owned by the school that was a few blocks from the 1811 house.

This house had 2 bowling alleys and was a place we could go without supervision.
